Six-Week Series: Confronting Christian Nationalism
Join us for six weeks of lively conversations rooted in how Jesus Christ dealt with political power, and the implications that has for us living in the United States of America in 2025. If you are concerned about the ways that politics and religion seem to be toxically enmeshed in our culture, this class is especially for you.
In class, we will discuss:
- How Christians throughout history and in modern times have remade Jesus in their own image
- How political agendas and societal power struggles distort the message of the gospel
- Problems and issues that arise from the unthinking or manipulative use of “God language” as political slogan: In God We Trust, God Bless America, “one nation under God,” etc. What do we believe about God’s presence in our or any human political structures? What does the Bible say about trusting in God versus trusting in the rulers and powers of the world?
- How our “worldly” identities (nationality, citizenship, political affiliations, etc.) inform and possibly distort our view of what “faith” means in the public sphere
Those are some of the questions we’ll discuss as we continue to live into our own identity here at Grace: followers of Jesus Christ first, before, and above any other. Please join us!
